Arnold Arboretum & Trinity Church Lecture: American Eden: What Our Gardens Tell Us about Who We Are

Wade Graham, Designer, Historian, Adjunct Professor of Public Policy, Pepperdine University

1 Session: Tuesday, November 29, 7:00pm–8:30pm

Location: Trinity Church, Copley Square Boston

In his book, American Eden, Wade Graham argues that how we design and garden shows more than simply how green are our thumbs. Gardens reveal information about who we are as a nation—where we have come from, and where we might be headed. From ethics to aesthetics, from politics to political correctness, Graham will speak about the history of gardening in America and how it has shaped and been shaped by daily life.

NELDHA's Annual Tea was held at a new venue this year, Elm Bank at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society in Wellesley, Massachusetts on November 8, 2011.  It was a great success with Members and Friends enjoying each other's company and the splendid delicacies prepared by Gaveston Catering of Dorchester, Massachusetts.  Garden Designer Sally Muspratt regaled our guests with an informative and entertaining description of her many travels with the Garden Conservancy, a nonprofit organization devoted to preserving America’s exceptional gardens for the education and enjoyment of the public. Sally's presentation included United States sites in California, Delaware, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas as well as European sites at Chateau du Champs de Bataille, Le Bois des Moutiers, Chateau de Brecy, Le Jardin Plume, Chateau de Courances, Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte.

Melanie Neuman, owner of Fiori Secchi Gardens, Sudbury, Massachusetts and Board member Jennifer Kimball graced the hall with beautiful seasonal floral displays.

Special thanks to Board member Jon Hogan who chaired the event, Melanie and Jennifer. Thank you also to Board members Heidi Kost Gross, Kathi Keith, Maureen O'Brien, Laurie Pazzano and Janis Porter for all their assistance in making this event such a success.
