Identification, Documentation and Preservation of Massachusetts’ Cultural Landscapes

SPEAKER: Bonnie Parsons, Principal Planner and Manager of Historic Preservation Programs at the Pioneer Valley Preservation Commission (PVPC), headquartered in West Springfield.

This presentation will look at several recent trends in the preservation of cultural landscapes.  It will highlight projects in western Massachusetts ranging from agricultural communities such as Hadley and Hatfield, to former industrial towns of South Hadley Falls, Easthampton, and Ware, and communities with strong institutional bases such as Northfield and Gill.  Strategies of tailoring zoning and historic preservation to individual community circumstances will also be addressed.
